Frequently asked questions concerning your property tax bill.
WHY DID I RECEIVE A TAX BILL?
Tax bills for real estate property are sent to the owner of records as of January 1, or the current owner, according to
the records of the Property Valuation Administrator's Office.
HOW WAS MY TAX CALCULATED?
The property tax bill lists all the assessed value of your personal property, the tax rate applied by various
jurisdictions ( such as state, county, school, soil, library, extension, health) and the subtotal of each.
AM I RESPONSIBLE FOR PAYING THIS BILL?
The property owner is legally responsible for ensuring that the tax bill is paid. If you escrow your property tax
through a mortgage company it is your responsibility to forward it to them.
WHAT PAYMENT METHODS ARE AVAILABLE?
You can pay your tax bill in the office by check, cash, or credit card. You can mail in your payments by check to
PO Box 127, Hardinsburg, Kentucky 40143, or you can pay online at breckinridgecountysheriff.net with a credit
card. Fees apply.
WHEN IS YOUR PAYMENT DUE?
The 2020 Tax Collection schedule is as follows.
2% discount - November 1, 2020 - November 30, 2020
Face amount - December 1, 2020 - December 31, 2020
5 % penalty - January 1, 2021 - January 31, 2021
21% penalty - February 1, 2021 - April 15, 2021
WILL I GET A RECEIPT?
If you mail your payment into the office, please provide a self-addressed envelope and we will return a receipt. If
you pay online, please provide your email address and a receipt will be sent to you.
MAY I PAY SEVERAL BILLS WITH ONE CHECK?
YES, However, if you do, please be sure you have added all the property bills up correctly. If the check is the wrong
amount, we will return it to you. PLEASE SEND THE TAX BILL STUB WITH YOUR PAYMENTS. This helps us to
know which properties you are paying.
GREEN FORM FIRE DUE OPT OUT
If you do not want to pay fire dues, a signed completed green form is required
with your payment. If we do not receive this form with your payment we will
return your payment to you.
